Preparation for the driving test
Everything you need to know to prepare for the driving test, from formal requirements to what the examiner focuses on.
After passing the theory test, the next step is the driving test. Good preparation significantly increases the chances of passing. Here’s what you need to know.
Pre-driving requirements

What the examiner assesses
The examiner looks for you to drive safely, independently and with a good understanding of traffic:
- Vehicle Handling – smooth acceleration, soft braking, precise steering
- Placement in the road – correct lane selection and distance to the edge
- Speed – adapted speed to the conditions and speed limits
- Duty to give way – correct compliance with yield rules
- Observation – use of mirrors, shoulder gaze and risk understanding
- Interaction – communication with other road users through turn signals and location
Typical tasks during driving
You will be asked to complete various situations:
- Driving in roundabout with the correct turn signal and lane selection
- Reversing and parking
- Driving on country road with overtaking if the situation allows it
- Driving in urban area with pedestrian crossings and intersections
- Daily check of car – sensor can ask you to show where you check oil, tire pressure or lights
Preparation Tips
- Drive varied routes – not just the same route
- Practice weak points – ask the driving instructor to focus on what you find difficult
- Simulate the driving situation – drive with a driving instructor who gives the same type of instructions as the examiner
- Sleep well the night before – fatigue leads to poorer reaction time and concentration
- Arrive early – stress negatively affects driving
Common causes of failing

After passing the driving test
Once you pass, you will get a temporary driver’s license on the spot. The plastic card will be sent by post. Remember that for the first few years, you have driving licence rules with a probationary period where serious violations can lead to loss of the right to drive.
