Driver's license class B – rules and requirements

What Class B Covers

A Class B driving license allows you to drive a passenger car and a van with a total weight of up to 3500 kg. You can also drive with a trailer as long as the combined total weight does not exceed 3500 kg, unless you have the additional B96 or BE class.

Requirements to Get a Driving License

Test Period and Conditions

After passing the driving test, you are in a two-year probation period. During this period, stricter rules apply for point deductions . If you lose your driving privileges during the probation period, you must take a new theory test and driving test.

What You Cannot Drive

• Motorcycle (requires Class A)
• Bus (requires Class D)
• Truck (requires Class C)
• Trailer over certain weight limits without an additional class

Validity and Renewal

A Class B driving license is valid for 15 years and must then be renewed. Upon renewal, a medical certificate is required for drivers over a certain age. You must always carry a valid driving license with you while driving.

Rights and Responsibilities

With the driving license comes a significant responsibility. You are obliged to follow the Road Traffic Act , stay within the blood alcohol limit , and drive with valid insurance .
