Four Steps in the Training
Driver training for class B is divided into four steps, where each step must be approved before you can proceed. The steps build on each other and ensure that you develop skills gradually.

Basic Traffic Course
The basic course is the first step and can be taken from the age of 15. The course includes:
- Theory lessons on traffic and risk
- First aid with practical exercises
- Demonstration of night driving
- Reflection on attitudes and responsibility in traffic
After completing the basic course, you can start practice driving from the age of 16.
Safety Course on Track
In step 4, you attend a safety course on track where you practice:
- Braking on slippery surfaces
- Evasive maneuvers around obstacles
- Understanding the limits of the vehicle
Safety Course on the Road
You also complete a safety course on the road with planning and execution of a longer drive. The focus is on risk assessment, independent driving, and different driving conditions .
Theory Test and Practical Driving Test
After all mandatory training remains:
- Theory test at the Norwegian Public Roads Administration
- Practical driving test which assesses overall driving competence
