Mandatory Signs (blue circle)

Mandatory signs have a blue background with a white symbol and indicate an obligation. You must follow the direction or action indicated by the sign.

Informational Signs (blue or green square)

Informational signs provide information, but no direct obligation. They tell you what kind of road you are on and which rules apply.

Common pitfalls

• Confusing mandatory signs with informational signs. Blue circle means mandatory, blue square means information.
• Forgetting that motorway signs imply that pedestrians, cyclists, and mopeds are prohibited.
