Special signs and service signs

In addition to regular traffic signs, there are special service signs and special signs that provide information about facilities and services along the road. These are important to be familiar with for practical driving.

Service Signs

Service signs are blue with white symbols and indicate services near the road.

Special Signs

Special signs provide information not covered by the regular sign groups:

• Distance signs: Show the distance to upcoming locations.
• Place signs: Mark the start and end of a built-up area with a white background and the place name.
• Tunnel signs: Show the tunnel’s name and length.
• Motorway signs: Green signs with the motorway symbol mark the start and end of a motorway.

Direction Signs

• Green signs indicate motorways and national road destinations.
• Blue signs indicate local destinations.
• Brown signs indicate tourist attractions and points of interest.
• Yellow signs are used for temporary diversions.

When are the signs relevant?

• Service signs help you find the nearest gas station, charging station, or hospital in unfamiliar areas.
• Place signs often indicate a change in speed limit (normally 50 km/h in built-up areas unless otherwise signed).
• Tunnel signs prepare you for any special regulations in tunnels.
