The theory test format and structure

The theory test for driving license class B is conducted digitally at the Norwegian Public Roads Administration. The test checks if you have sufficient knowledge of traffic rules, signs, and safety to travel safely on the road.

Structure of the Test

The questions are a mix of multiple-choice tasks and tasks where you assess traffic situations from images or illustrations.

Topics Covered

The test draws questions from the entire curriculum. The most common topic groups are:

• Traffic signs and road markings – recognizing and understanding the meaning of various types of signs
• Right of way and intersections – rules for the right-hand rule , marked yield, and roundabouts
• Speed and distance – calculation of stopping distance and the three-second rule
• First aid – life-saving measures and emergency procedures
• Vehicle control – daily car checks and safety equipment
• Risk awareness – risk awareness in traffic and defensive driving

How the Test Day Works

1. Arrive at the traffic station with valid identification in good time
2. You will be assigned a computer with the test ready
3. Read each question carefully – you can mark questions and return to them
4. The result is displayed immediately after submission

Tips for Passing

• Work systematically through the entire curriculum, not just the topics you find difficult
• Practice with mock exams similar to the real test
