What are variable signs?

Variable signs are electronic boards that can change the message as needed. They are used on highways, in tunnels, and on bridges to adjust the regulations according to current conditions.

Types of variable signs

Priority in the sign hierarchy

• Variable signs are considered temporary signs and have higher priority than permanent signs.
• When an electronic speed limit shows 60 km/h, it applies even if the permanent sign says 80 km/h..

In tunnels

• Red cross above the lane means the lane is closed. You must change lanes immediately.
