The Difference Between D and D1

Class D and D1 give you the right to drive a bus, but cover different vehicles.

Class D1 is sufficient for smaller buses and passenger transport on a limited scale. Class D is required for full bus operations.

Age Limits

CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) allows you to start earlier but requires additional training.

Health Requirements

• You must have a medical certificate from a doctor including an extended vision test and general health check.
• The medical certificate must be renewed regularly after turning 45 years old.
• Certain medical conditions may require exemption from the County Governor.

Training Program

1. Have a valid class B driving license before you start.
2. Complete basic training with theory and practical instruction at an approved driving school.
3. Pass the theory test at the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.
4. Pass the practical pre-test with an examiner.
5. Complete any YSK training for professional driving.

Professional Driver Qualification (YSK)

YSK is mandatory for everyone driving a bus in commercial or paid transport.

• Basic training of 280 hours (140 hours in accelerated course).
• Must be renewed every five years with 35 hours of continuing education.
• Documented with professional driver code 95 on the driving license.
