YSK for bus drivers
Everything bus drivers need to know about CPC requirements, basic training, continuing education, and documentation.
What is YSK?
Professional Driver Competence (YSK) is a legal requirement for everyone who drives a bus for payment or in commercial transport. The requirement applies in addition to the driver’s license class D .

Basic Training
Basic training provides the fundamental professional competence and can be completed in two ways:
- Regular course: 280 hours of theory and practice.
- Accelerated course: 140 hours, but the age limit increases (24 years for class D).
The training covers, among other things, traffic safety, passenger handling, driving and rest times, first aid, and economical driving.
Continuing Education
The YSK certificate is valid for five years. To renew it, you must complete 35 hours of continuing education spread over the validity period.
- The continuing education must include at least one subject related to traffic safety.
- The courses are conducted by approved educational institutions.
- If you have YSK for both bus and truck, you can combine the continuing education.
Documentation
YSK is documented with code 95 on the driving license. Without this code, you are not allowed to drive a bus for commercial transport.
- Check that code 95 is registered before you start driving.
- During checks, you must be able to present a driving license with a valid code 95.
- Expired YSK can be renewed with new continuing education without having to retake the entire basic course.
