Categories for drone flight
Everyone flying a drone in Norway must follow the EASA regulations that apply throughout the EU/EOS.. Drones are divided into three categories based on risk.

| A2 | Near people | Under 2 kg (C2) | At least 30 m from people (5 m with low-speed mode) |
| A3 | Far from people | Under 25 kg (C2/C3/C4) | At least 150 m from residential and commercial areas |
When do you need a drone pilot license?
Anyone flying drones 250 grams or more must complete online training and pass a theory test with the Civil Aviation Authority. This also applies to drones under 250 grams with a camera.For category A2, a remote pilot certificate is additionally required, which involves a more comprehensive theoretical test and self-training.
Drone registration
You must register as a drone operator with the Civil Aviation Authority before you can fly. Registration requires:
- Valid e-ID (BankID or similar)
- Payment of registration fee
- Labeling the drone with your operator number
Drones under 250 grams without a camera are exempt from the registration requirement.

Children under 16 years can fly drones under 250 grams without a camera without training.
