Clothing and Footwear

Proper clothing is crucial for a good hunting experience. Use the layering principle with an outer layer that protects against wind and rain, a middle layer for insulation, and an inner layer that transports moisture.

During big game hunting with driving dogs, you should wear high-visibility clothing (orange or red) to be visible to other hunters.

OpticsBinoculars are indispensable for identifying game at a distance. A good hunting binocular should have a magnification of 8x42 or 10x42, which provides good light entry at dusk. Rangefinder is useful for accurately assessing shooting distance.

For big game hunting, a rifle scope is mandatory for the shooting test and highly recommended in the field. A scope with variable magnification (for example 2-10x50) provides flexibility in various hunting situations.

Knife

A good hunting knife is necessary for slaughtering and processing game in the field. Bring:

• Fixed-blade knife with a 10-12 cm blade for slaughtering
• Folding knife for general tasks
• Sharpening equipment to keep the knives sharp

First Aid Kit

A first aid kit should always be carried in the backpack. Its contents should cover:- Bandages and compresses for wound care

• Plasters and sports tape
• Emergency aluminum (rescue blankets)
• Painkillers
• Tweezers and scissors

Navigation and Communication

GPS is an important tool to find your way back in unknown terrain and mark important points. Always carry map and compass as a backup. A VHF radio or mobile phone ensures communication with the hunting team. Remember that mobile coverage can be poor in the mountains.

Other Useful Equipment

A backpack with sitting pad, thermos, energy bar, headlamp, and a small tarp or emergency plastic is equipment that makes long hunting days more comfortable and safe.
