Overview of the ADR regulations for the transport of dangerous goods by truck in Norway.
What is ADR?
ADR (Accord européen relatif au transport international des marchandises Dangereuses par Route) is the international regulation for the transport of dangerous goods by road. In Norway, the ADR regulations are implemented in law and apply to everyone who transports hazardous substances.
ADR Classes
Dangerous goods are divided into nine main classes based on the type of hazard.

| 7 | Radioactive material | Medical equipment |
| 8 | Corrosive substances | Battery acid, sodium hydroxide |
| 9 | Miscellaneous dangerous goods | Lithium batteries, asbestos |
- The vehicle shall have orange hazard labels at the front and back.
- Packages shall be marked with the correct hazard class label.
- UN number identifies the substance and shall be on the hazard label.
ADR Certificate
To transport dangerous goods above certain quantity limits, the driver needs an ADR certificate.
- Basic course grants the right to transport most classes.
- Special course is required for class 1 (explosives) and class 7 (radioactive).
- The certificate is valid for five years and renewed with a new exam.
Driver’s Responsibility
- Check that the load is correctly marked and packaged.
- Have transport documents and written instructions available in the cabin.
- Bring appropriate protective equipment: eye wash, gloves, safety vest, and fire extinguisher.
- Follow rules for parking and tunnel restrictions for dangerous goods.
