The Difference Between C and C1

Class C and C1 grant the right to drive a truck, but cover different weight classes.

Class C1 is sufficient for distribution trucks and smaller trucks. Class C is required for heavier vehicles and long-haul transport.

Age Limits

With CPC (Professional Driver Qualification), you can take class C already from 18 years, but approved professional driver training is required.

Health Requirements

• Medical certificate from a doctor including an eye test and blood pressure measurement is mandatory.
• The medical certificate is renewed at age 45, and thereafter every five years.
• Certain illnesses such as epilepsy, diabetes, or heart disease may require exemption.

Training pathway

1. First, have a valid class B driving license.
2. Complete basic education with theory and practice at an approved driving school.
3. Pass the theory test at the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.
4. Pass the practical driving test with an examiner.
5. Complete YSK training if you intend to drive for payment.

YSK for trucks

Anyone driving a truck professionally must have professional driver competence. The basic training is 280 hours, and the competence is renewed every five years with 35 hours of continuing education. Read more about the YSK requirements .
