Traffic rules for mopeds
Review of the traffic rules that apply specifically to moped driving in Norway.
Speed Limits and Positioning
A moped has a maximum design speed of 45 km/h. You should keep as far to the right as possible and not unnecessarily obstruct other traffic. On multi-lane roads, you should normally stay in the right lane.
Mopeds are not allowed on motorways or expressways. These roads require vehicles that can maintain higher speeds.
Right of Way
The right of way rules apply to mopeds in the same way as for other vehicles. The main principles:

| Intersections without signs | The right-hand rule applies, you must give way to traffic from the right |
| Yield sign | You must stop or slow down and give way to all crossing traffic |
| Driveway | You have the right of way when turning out from a driveway, parking lot, or pedestrian street |
| Roundabout | You must give way when entering |
Signs You Must Know
Moped riders must be familiar with prohibition signs that specifically apply to mopeds, for example signs that prohibit moped riding on certain routes. Sub-signs can also specify whether a prohibition applies or does not apply to mopeds.
Pay special attention to pedestrian and bicycle paths. Moped class 2 (bicycle-path moped) can ride here, while regular moped class 1 usually is not allowed.
Lights and visibility
You must always use mandatory driving lights. At night or in poor visibility, you must ensure that all lights on the moped are functioning, including taillight and position lights. Good visibility greatly reduces the risk of accidents.
Passengers and cargo
You may only carry a passenger if the moped is approved for it. The passenger must wear an approved helmet and sit on a fixed seat with footrests.
Practice right-of-way and signs with free theory test to become confident before the test day.
