Security Question – Class B

During the driving test, the examiner asks safety questions about the car you are driving. You must be able to check and explain important functions. This overview covers everything you may be asked about.

Tires, rims, and air pressure| Question | Answer |

| — | — | | Check tires and rims for damage? | Look for cuts on the sidewall, dents in the rim, and bubbles in the tire rubber. | | What can wear tell you? | Worn on the sides: too little air. Worn in the middle: too much air. Worn on one side: incorrect alignment. | | Check tread depth? | Use a depth gauge or wear indicators. Minimum 1.6 mm in summer, 3.0 mm in winter. | | What is the risk of too little tread depth? | Poor grip and increased risk of aquaplaning. | | What is the correct tire size and load capacity? | See the vehicle registration document for size and load index (LI). Check that it matches what is stated on the tire. | | What is the correct air pressure? | See the manual or the marking inside the fuel cap. Check with a tire pressure gauge. |

Lights and signals| Question | Answer |

Have someone press the pedal, or use reflection. | | Is it safe to drive without brake lights? | No. Check the bulb and fuse. | | Check that the low beams work and are correctly adjusted? | Turn on the low beams and look at a wall. Both should light up, and the light beam should not point too high. | | What happens with incorrectly adjusted low beams? | Glare for oncoming traffic and shorter visibility for you. | | Check that the hazard lights work? | Turn on the hazard lights and walk around the car. All four turn signals should blink. | | When are hazard lights used? | In the event of an emergency stop, accident, or situations that require extra attention from other road users. | | Check fog lights and rear fog light? | Turn on and check visually. Rear fog light has its own switch. | | When is it wrong to use the rear fog light? | In good visibility. Causes strong glare, especially for cars behind in a queue. | | Check parking, reverse, and license plate lights? | They often turn on automatically. Walk around the car and check all of them. |## Brakes and ABS| Question | Answer | | — | — | | Check that the brake booster is working? | Pump the pedal until it is hard, keep your foot on it, start the engine. The pedal should sink slightly. | | Is it safe to drive without a functioning brake booster? | No. Braking power is greatly reduced and the pedal becomes very hard. | | Check the brake fluid level? | Open the hood and look at the reservoir. The level should be between min and max. | | What do you do if the brake fluid level is too low? | Could be due to worn pads or a leak. Drive to a workshop for inspection. | | Do the brakes pull to one side? | Drive 30–40 km straight ahead, brake with a light grip on the steering wheel. The car should hold its course. Pulling means uneven wear. | | What does the red brake warning light mean? | Lights up at ignition and goes out. If it lights while driving: stop and find the cause (dual circuit fault, low fluid, handbrake). | | What does the yellow ABS light mean? | Lights up at ignition and goes out. If it lights while driving, the brakes work, but without ABS. Drive to a workshop. |## Steering and Stability

Visibility and windscreen wipers

Battery, belts, and airbag| Question | Answer |

A loose battery poses a risk of short circuit and acid spills. | | Check the horn and light horn? | Press the steering wheel for the horn. Flash the lights for the light horn. | | Check the seat belts? | Look for wear and damage. Test that the belt tightens and retracts. | | What happens with slack belt rollers? | The belt lies loose and does not tighten in a collision. | | What does the airbag warning light mean? | Lights up at ignition and goes out.
