Required Equipment

Approved helmet is mandatory for both driver and passenger during all snowmobile riding. The helmet must have CE marking according to ECE standards. In addition, driving lights must be turned on during all riding.

Clothing

Proper clothing is crucial because wind chill on a snowmobile makes it feel much colder than the air temperature.

Avoid cotton next to the skin, as it retains moisture and causes rapid cooling.

Visor and Eye Protection

Use visor or snowmobile goggles to protect your eyes from wind, snow, and cold. Keep the visor clean and consider bringing an extra visor in your backpack for replacement in case of damage or icing.

Navigation and Communication

• GPS or map and compass for navigating in unfamiliar terrain
• Mobile phone in a waterproof case, but remember that coverage is limited in the mountains
• Emergency beacon (PLB) is recommended on longer trips far from settlements
• Agree on a trip plan with someone at home and provide expected return time

First Aid and Emergency Provisions

Always bring first aid equipment suitable for winter trips:

• Bandages, compresses, and plasters
• Rescue blanket (emergency sheet) against hypothermia
• Emergency provisions with high energy content
• Extra dry clothes in a waterproof bag
• Matches or lighter in a waterproof container

Tools and Spare Parts

On longer trips, you should bring basic tools, a spare drive belt, an extra spark plug, and a tow strap. A simple repair kit can save you from a long walk back.
