What is the knowledge test?

The knowledge test is a mandatory exam that all taxi drivers must pass in order to obtain a taxi license in Norway. The test assesses whether you have sufficient knowledge of the regulations that apply to the taxi industry.

Content of the test

The test covers several key subject areas:

Pricing rules and taximeter

All taxis must have an approved taximeter that records prices based on:- Starting price (base fare)

• Per kilometer price (distance surcharge)
• Time surcharge (waiting time and driving at low speed)

Taxi drivers are obliged to inform the passenger of the estimated price before the trip starts. When booking, the price must be provided in advance if the passenger requests it.

Test format

• The test is conducted digitally at an approved test provider.
• It consists of multiple-choice questions within the relevant subject areas.
• You must achieve a certain percentage of correct answers to pass.
• If you fail, you can retake the test after a waiting period.
