Passenger safety in taxis
The taxi driver's duties for passenger safety, receipt, and accessible transportation.
The Driver’s Responsibility
As a taxi driver, you have a special responsibility to ensure that passengers feel safe and cared for throughout the journey. This includes both physical safety and good customer service.
- Check that all passengers are using seat belts before departure.
- Adjust your driving style so that passengers experience the ride as safe and comfortable.
- Pay special attention to children, the elderly, and people with disabilities.
Taximeter and Price
| Requirement | Description |
|---|---|
| Taximeter | All taxis must have an approved and sealed taximeter |
| Price information | The passenger must be informed of the estimated price of the ride |
| Visible price list | Fares must be displayed visibly in the car |
| Starting fare | The taximeter is activated at the start of the ride |
Taxi drivers are not allowed to charge more than what the taximeter shows. Manipulating the taximeter is punishable.
Receipt Obligation
After each ride, the driver is required to offer the passenger a receipt showing:
- Starting location and destination
- Price of the ride
- Date and time
- Driver’s or dispatch center’s identification
The receipt is generated automatically by the taximeter and should be issued without the passenger requesting it.
Seatbelt requirement and child safety
- All passengers in a taxi are subject to the seatbelt requirement according to the Road Traffic Act.
- Children under 135 cm must use approved child safety equipment.
- Taxis are exempt from the child safety requirement on short trips in built-up areas, but the driver must still offer safety equipment when it is available.
Universal design
A taxi driver who provides accessible transport must:- Assist passengers with wheelchairs in and out of the car
- Secure aids properly during driving
- Be familiar with the functions of the wheelchair ramp and securing systems in the car
- Show patience and respect towards passengers who need extra time
