How the Theory Test Works
The theory test is conducted digitally at one of the Norwegian Public Roads Administration’s traffic stations. You sit in front of a computer in a monitored exam room and answer multiple-choice questions.

The questions cover traffic rules, signage, first aid, vehicle technology, and risk assessment. Some questions have illustrations and require you to evaluate traffic situations.
Registration and Attendance
- Book an appointment via the Norwegian Public Roads Administration’s website or call tel. 22 07 30 00.
- You must have valid photo identification (passport, driver’s license, or national ID card).
- Arrive in good time, at least 15 minutes before the test starts.
- Bring confirmation of your medical certificate and any other required documents for your class.
During the test
- You can go back and forth between the questions.
- Mark questions you are unsure of and return to them.
- The time is displayed on the screen, and you will get a notification when 10 minutes remain.
- It is not allowed to use phones, aids, or communicate with others.
- The test room is monitored with cameras.
Result
You will receive the result immediately after submitting the test. The result shows:
- Passed or not passed
- Number of correct answers per topic area
- Any weak areas you should work on moreIf you fail, you can book a new test after a waiting period of two weeks.
