YSK continuing education
Requirements and content in YSK continuing education to renew professional driver competence.
What is YSK Continuing Education?
YSK continuing education is a mandatory course of 35 hours that all professional bus and truck drivers must complete every five years. The continuing education renews code 95 on the driving license and ensures that drivers stay updated on regulations, safety, and professional practice.
Who must take continuing education?
All drivers with code 95 are required to complete continuing education, regardless of whether they have taken a basic course or have exemption through a previous license.
| Group | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Drivers with basic course | 35 hours every 5 years after completing the basic course |
| Drivers with exemption | 35 hours every 5 years from the exemption date |
| Drivers with both freight and passenger competence | One course covers both |
Freight transport vs. passenger transport
YSK competence distinguishes between freight transport (truck) and passenger transport (bus), but the continuing education is common.- If you have code 95 for both freight and passenger, you only need one continuing education course.
- The course content covers topics that are relevant for both modes of transport.
- You can choose continuing education with a focus on freight or passengers depending on your main activity.
Course content
The continuing education covers updates and in-depth study in:
- Traffic safety and defensive driving
- Driving and rest time regulations and use of tachograph
- Cargo securing and handling (for freight transport)
- Passenger safety and customer service (for passenger transport)
- Health and ergonomics for professional drivers
- New regulations and rule changes
Practical implementation
- The course can be divided into modules of at least 7 hours per day.
- It must be completed with an approved course organizer.
- You can take the modules over a period of time, but everything must be completed before code 95 expires.
- The Norwegian Public Roads Administration registers completed continuing education and renews the code on the driver’s license.
