Freight Transport in YSK
Freight transport constitutes a central part of the YSK training for drivers with driving licenses class C and C1. The driver must master cargo securing, know different types of goods, and understand the regulations regarding dangerous goods.
ADR
- Dangerous Goods
ADR (Accord Dangereux Routier) is the European regulation for the transport of dangerous goods by road.
| ADR Class | Examples |
|---|---|
| 1 | Explosives |
| 2 | Gases (flammable, toxic) |
| 3 | Flammable liquids (petrol, solvents) |
| 4 | Flammable solids |
| 5 | Oxidizing substances and organic peroxides |
| 6 | Toxic and infectious substances |
| 7 | Radioactive material |
| 8 | Corrosive substances |
| 9 | Miscellaneous dangerous substances |
To transport dangerous goods above certain exempted quantities, the driver must have an ADR competence certificate. The certificate is renewed every five years through courses and exams.
Cargo Securing
Incorrect cargo securing is one of the most common causes of accidents involving trucks.
- The cargo must be secured so that it can withstand braking, acceleration, and turning without shifting.
- Use approved straps, chains, and anti-slip mats suitable for the weight and type of goods.
- Check that the cargo’s total weight does not exceed the vehicle’s allowable payload.
- Distribute weight evenly and keep the center of gravity low.
- Check the securing during long trips.
Types of Goods and Special Requirements
| Type of Goods | Special Considerations |
|---|---|
| General cargo | Secured individually, stacking according to guidelines |
| Bulk goods | Requirement for a tight truck, weight distribution |
| Temperature-controlled | Sensitive cargo with temperature log, ATP approval |
| Long goods | Marking and warning for protruding load |
| Live animals | Animal welfare requirements, ventilation, driving times |

The driver must have with them:
- Waybill describing the cargo
